Food

Aloha,

I am a big lover of the food here and I wanted to give this part of my trip a separate section. I will post more pictures of what I have eaten and label it so everyone will know what each dish is and from where! Hope you enjoy looking at these pictures just as much as I enjoyed eating all this!

Mahalo,

Maddie

Pataka

Our first day at work, our kind coworker and now close friend, Rishika, took us out to lunch at Pataka. We got different kinds of Parathas. These are a flatbread which are very popular in South India. It is basically thick dough with different seasoning and ingredients inside. I was very fond of this food because it reminded me of thick and flavorful tortillas!

Nalpak

This is where we had out first dinner. It was a great first experience going to a restaurant here. We ordered Veg dosa and baby corn Manchurian. Dosa is a thin flat layer of rice batter that can be cooked with different foods. Here we got a vegetable dosa so it was cook with a variety of veggies. Manchurian is a popular Indochinese dish here. They fry the baby corn and add different Indochinese sauces and spices. We really enjoyed both of these dishes!

Hotel Dasaprakash Paradise

We went here for dinner one day, in between work. This was the nicest place we went to do far. The food was also amazing! We ordered Naan bread is another type of flat bread, a stable for many meals. Crispy Veggies is another Indochinese dish where vegetables are fried and seasoned with many spices. Capsicum Manchurian is bell peppers prepared the same way as mentioned above. Bhindi Masala is a type of curry here made with okra, onion, tomatoes and many spices. Veggie Soft Noodles is an Indochinese dish made with cooked soft noodles and mixed with different cooked vegetables. Was a very filling and delicious meal!

Homemade Lunch by Lakshmi

We recently made an amazing deal with one of the workers here at PHRII. Lakshmi will be making us lunches everyday so we don’t have to rush in between work and go out somewhere. Her cooking is amazing, its so nice to have a homecooked meal too! She makes us different foods each day. This first day she made Papad (spelt it wrong in the picture, sorry!) is a crisp, thin, fried flour made with lentils or chickpeas. The omelette is made with different vegetables. Bisi bele bath is a traditional Karnataka recipe and is translated to ‘hot lentil rice dish.’ Everything she made us was wonderful!

Parklane Hotel

We are very fond of this place. It has a great atmosphere and wonderful food! We had Dal which is a creamy kind of curry made with lentils. There are many different types of Dal that can be found. Paneer Tikka Masala is another type of curry. Paneer is a type of Indian cottage cheese, which I don’t like cheese, so I just eat the sauce. Tikka Masala is the type of curry or spices used. Butter Chicken dish was my favorite! That was my first non-veg dish here in India. It is a creamy curry with a variety of spices with tomato sauce.

Like I said before, we really like it here at Parklane. Veg Garlic Fried Rice is basically the normal friend rice, nothing different here, same with the garlic butter naan. Paneer Tikka Masala was described earlier. Szechuan Noodles is another Indochinese dish

Green Leaf

Woooow! When this dish came out, I was so surprised how big it was! It was bigger than our table, I was thrown so off guard! It was also very delicious. Paper Dosa another type of dosa that I explained earlier. However, this type of dosa is very thin and crispy. It seems very simple, but with the sauces its very good. The red sauce is called sambar which is a heated lentil soup. The light greenish sauce is coconut chutney which is usually not cooked. I am not a fan of coconut so I do not eat the chutney, but the hot sambar with the paper dosa was a perfect pairing!

This is an Open Dosa that we had at Green Leaf. This restaurant has specials for each day, so this was the special on Monday’s. Only 75 rupees so only a little over 1 US dollar! This is yet another type of dosa. The flatbread is made crispy and has a lot of dried spices on top. It is served with a type of mashed potato, the yellow substance in the middle. It is also served with the coconut chutney and sambar. This was definitely one of our favorite dishes, especially on Monday’s!
